Gastein

600 kilometres of hiking trails lead to over 60 managed alpine pastures and to the highest grassy mountains in Europe, as well as directly into the Hohe Tauern National Park. Hikers can not only discover impressive natural landscapes here, but also the valley's rich mining history, two thermal spas and three culturally diverse towns.

Tip: The Gastein long-distance hiking trail "Gastein Trail": 87 kilometres and 4,513 metres of altitude difference in 7 daily stages.

From ribwort to arnica: You’re a true herb connoisseur, and you know about the different healing properties of the local flora? In the Hochkönig region, nature lovers will find countless regional plants during alpine summer. The local herbs are not only used for food and drink at the 13 herb alms, but also for many other beneficial herbal products. These can be hiked with a collection pass.

Tip: Some of the hosts at the alpine huts and pastures will be happy to share their tips and tricks for teas, tinctures and ointments!
